When Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) is terminated as Globodyne Corporation’s VP of Communications, he assures his wife, Jane (Téa Leoni), he’ll find another job in no time. Months later, their lawn is repossessed, Jane has sold her body to science, and Dick’s career as a day laborer ends with his deportation to Mexico.
Dec 21, 2005 · Watch video · Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni work very well together. And while the 1977 original had two of my favorite people (whacko politics aside for Jane Fonda because she was a hoot in Barbarella), I think this version was more light hearted and more up to date.
Dick and Jane really do get completely screwed not only by other people’s infinite greed, but by the breakdown of modern society to provide employment and hope. It’s impressive how likable Carrey and Tea Leone are in this film, how well and credibly they interact.
In later years, Leoni had the female lead roles in films including Deep Impact (1998), The Family Man (2000), Jurassic Park III (2001), and Fun with Dick and Jane (2005). In 2014, Leoni returned to television with the leading role in the CBS political drama series Madam Secretary .
